Raising of Canadian flag a welcome sight

Personally, it’s welcome news the national flag has been hoisted at federal buildings across Canada so the Canadian flag can be lowered to half-mast on Indigenous Veterans Day and again lowered to half-mast on Remembrance Day.

It is most important as a country we honour and remember the 117,000 Canadians, who gave the ultimate sacrifice including my great-uncle Lloyd. My sister, Leah, and I never got to meet our great-uncle Lloyd and our mom never got to meet her uncle Lloyd. He never returned home to his family in Canada as he was shot down and killed while serving Canada during the Second World War. His body was never recovered.

Canada is an amazing country and we can appreciate the freedoms we enjoy today because of those who gave their lives. We also honour all veterans, who served Canada and survived. They gave up the gift of time and time away from families and many of their lives changed forever.
